Progressive Building Society has chosen Alzheimer’s Society as its charity partner for the 2024 Annual General Meeting of shareholders on April 25th, 2024.

Progressive will donate £2 and 20p respectively for each online vote and paper vote cast by its Members, up to £10,000, for the Society’s 109th AGM.

Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity working to address all aspects of dementia, bringing help and hope to people living with dementia today, and in the future. The Society provides vital support to people facing the most frightening times of their lives; while also funding groundbreaking research and campaigning to make dementia a government priority.

As Northern Ireland’s older population is ageing faster than in other parts of the UK, we have the largest projected regional increase in the number of people living with dementia. With the number of people living with dementia estimated to increase from 27,000 to 43,000 by 2040, Alzheimer’s Society is campaigning hard for a properly funded Regional Dementia Care Pathway for Northern Ireland.

A recent report from the charity revealed that more than three in five people affected by dementia in Northern Ireland struggled with too little support. Alzheimer’s Society supports people practically and emotionally through its network of Dementia Advisors working on the ground across all five Trust areas, a wide range of helpful and up-to-date advice on its website, and a locally staffed helpline.

Progressive Secretary Kyle McRoberts said they were delighted to partner with Alzheimer’s Society for this year’s AGM and help support a vital local service.

“We all know somebody who has been affected by dementia, either directly or indirectly, so the more we can do to support those who need it the better,” he said.

“This is an opportunity for us to help bolster what the charity does for families and communities in Northern Ireland at a time of great need.

“At Progressive, we endeavor to stay involved with what is happening at community level and we appreciate the resolute work that is done by Alzheimer’s society.”

Linzi Stewart, Lead Community Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society said the partnership with Progressive will help the charity to continue raising vital funds and awareness.

“We are thrilled Progressive has chosen Alzheimer’s Society as its AGM charity partner. In Northern Ireland more than 20,000 people are living with dementia. Alzheimer’s Society is a vital source of support and acts as a powerful force for change for everyone affected by dementia,” she said.

“We provide help and hope, supporting people affected by dementia in NI through some of the hardest and most frightening times. Whoever you are, whatever you are going through, you can turn to us for practical advice, emotional support, and guidance to the best next steps.”
